Boston University was founded as one of the first all-inclusive universities, as well as a leading private research and teaching institution. With 32,000 students from 50 states and 140 countries, BU is the fourth largest independent university in the United States. For over 150 years, Boston University has anticipated the changing needs of its students while serving the greater needs of society.

The Master of Education (EdM) Program is available to individuals who have completed bachelorís degrees in accredited colleges and universities throughout the world. While evidence of commitment to human service is a prerequisite, it is not necessary to have majored in the social or behaviorial sciences.

Your area of specialization will determine the minimum requirement for completion of the EdM program in Counseling; however, all students will complete the core counseling curriculum as well as clinical training, which will include a pre-practicum experience in the spring of their first year and a 600-hour clinical placement in their second year. Additional requirements are determined by your area of specialization. All students interested in these courses should request preliminary advising from the program coordinator prior to registering. Diverse, approved electives drawn from across the University and consortium can also be suggested by individual students who have interest in special settings or forms of counseling.
