Students desiring to obtain a Master of Science in Health Systems Management must hold a baccalaureate degree and recommended 2-4 years computer systems work experience, or hold a baccalaureate degree in computer or information systems or a related area.

A national plan to create universal electronic medical records by 2015 includes a strategy to increase the use of healthcare information technology (IT) and to create national standards to digitize, store and share healthcare information electronically. This initiative increases the demand for trained individuals in the Health Systems Management field to manage complex IT systems in the hospital environment.
